Sabile Evangelical Lutheran Church

Already in the 16th century on the left side of Abava valley there was a church. It was rebuilt several times. It got its present appearance in 1876;nit is an elongated single-aisle building with some Romanesque style features, it has a choir, sacristy and a square tower with pyramidal top. The treasure of the interior is the pulpit (the end of 16th century, 1676) that has survived from the original 16th century furniture set in style of Mannerism, it is the oldest interior piece of Lutheran churches in Latvia. The altar painting "Crucified Christ" (1860) by German artisan F. Wolf  was barbarically stolen, then regained, restored (1996) and consecrated anew, now it is placed into the church altar. The pews with Gothic style features were made in the second part of 19th century. Rather interesting is the thumb stone with a house sign. There is also a unique bell molten in 1450 and preserved by the church, it still calls the parishioners to Sunday service; and a vane (1651) on the top of the church tower.
